A lot of "comfort" food recipes out there use convenience products out there like Onion Soup mix and brown gravy packets. Unfortunately, with a gluten/soy/corn free lifestyle, it can be difficult to find "convenience" products out there that don't have any of those things in them. However, I found a recipe for Brown Gravy Mix out there that I was able to adapt to meet my food requirements. And, it makes a bunch of it so that I can store it for use later on....my own bit of convenience for future meals. Thanks to Paula G on Food.com for the recipe inspiration.
Brown Gravy Mix - Gluten Free Version
1 2/3 C Arrowroot powder (or use cornstarch if you can eat corn)
6 Tbsp beef bouillon powder (if using the box of packets, you will need 18 packets)
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground pepper
Measure all ingredients into a mixing bowl and whisk together to incorporate. When a recipe calls for a Brown Gravy Mix packet, use 1 Tbsp of this mix. Store in an airtight container for later.
