Peach Margarita

Being that I am challenged in the food realm, I am limited to what liquor I can have....especially since many of the producers of liquor don't divulge their ingredients to protect their product.  But, tequila seems to always be ok for me!  Drinking different tequilas always takes me back to my Chevy's days where we would taste test different tequilas to recommend to customers.  I was roaming the liquor aisle at my local grocery store about a month ago and I stumbled on this tequila...I was intrigued by the craft and small batch, so I bought a bottle:

That same week, my neighbor and fellow culinary school grad, Sara, was indicating her peach tree was near exploding and something needed to be done.  So, in my devious little mind, I said we should try to perfect the perfect peach margarita!  She was in....so we got together one afternoon and tried a couple recipes with my tequila.  We played with different sweeteners, different spices, and different levels of spice/heat.  When we decided our palates were shot and we were too tipsy to be able to judge anymore, we settled on the right proportions of tequila, sweetener, and spices.  However, I wasn't satisfied.  What if there was a better tequila choice?  Maybe a blanco would be better?  Maybe a different brand?  I shared this with Sara, and she agreed more testing needed to be done.  So we scheduled another afternoon of taste testing.

This time, we agreed to stick with one recipe with the only variable being the tequilas.  So we tried the Teremana we used last time and the following three tequilas:

Although all were good, we definitely preferred the Teremana Reposado and the Don Julio Blanco with the recipe we put together.  We felt happy with the results of this recipe and thought you might be interested in trying it too since the peaches are just so amazing this year!

We did try Mezcal as well, but decided to take it off the list because it was just too darned smoky.  However, I might try a part Mezcal and part Tequila mix next time.

Want to try our recipe?  It's really tasty!

Peach Margarita by Sara and Carrie

1/3 C peach puree (approximately 3-5 peaches, peeled and blended until smooth)
2 oz tequila
1 1/2 oz lime juice
1 oz triple sec
1 Tbsp agave syrup
6 splashes peach bitters
1/16 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp ground ancho chili powder

Here you can either use a shaker full of ice and shake all the ingredients together and strain into your favorite glass or you can blend it with ice until smooth.  Enjoy!!!!
